The house was up the road from Maria’s and on a hill. Within 3 weeks Joe and Ed were making boards in a little shop underneath the house where they were staying. Joe was having a blast, his board was working beyond his expectations, the board worked unreal Joe says. They went around to the other side and Duke introduced Joe to Table Top’s. The winds were really blowing from the south and Rincon was blown out. One day Duke Michael says to Joe let go over to a different surf spot. That was a confident builder that got Joe started in becoming a shaper. After the board was re-glassed Joe took it out and the board rode fantastic. Ed had brought fiberglass and resin with him to do ding repairs during his stay. Having watched the guys in Hawaii make his boards he knew somewhat of how to go about doing the rail contours.Įd Searfoss who was over from New York glassed it Joe. (Little did Joe knew back then that he would be working for Brewer in the 70’s and 80’s). The tail from that template had more curve and the nose area was narrower. He skinned the glass off on both sides of that board and redrew the outline with a template he made from a Brewer board one of his friends had. Joe said yeah and took it back to Duke Michael’s shop outside of Rincon where he was staying. He asked Joe if he wanted his two piece board. One day at Rincon a guy had broken his board and was bummed. Going surfing was the main thing for Joe and he was at the beach most of the time. Joe would sell it in Barbados when he went there later on. The guys at the Tomb & Reeves shop where Joe had his boards made were not in tune with outlines and contours that the Hawaiians were doing and the board that they made for him didn’t ride very good in Puerto Rico. He asked for a flat bottom and turned down rails like the ones that were being made in Hawaii. Since it would be cheaper to have a board made in Florida, then Hawaii he went to Florida first and had one made. Able to fly around to many destinations for almost free Joe wanted to go to Puerto Rico and Barbados, so after saving some money he took off in the fall of 1969. George would take Joe out to the North Shore and show Joe where to paddle out at on a big day at Lanni’s and showing him the tricks at Sunset, so Joe says he was one lucky haole. After Titanic, they will do whatever he says, so we can now expect some great Cameron films to look forward to, rather than having to wait for the REAL movie to come out years later on a Special Edition DVD.During that time Joe would work for George Downing in Waikiki Beach doing ding repairs and getting valuable advice from George in surfing. At the time, despite a few solid hits (such as the original Terminator), James Cameron wasn't enough of a power in La-La land to force the studios to release the movie as he wanted it to be. God forbid that anyone actually may have to think a little. Well, what did you expect? Hollywood executives make movies for the common herd, they dumb them down to make sure every patron goes away feeling happy. As opposed to the canned studio ending, the REAL one makes you think. See the REAL ending to understand why it is so important to this film. It betrays the message of the film, and makes it nothing more than a good underwater shoot-em-up. The ending the studios insisted on is your typical boring old done-a-million-times happy ending, and does not work. The morons from the studio in Hollywood decided that the public wouldn't want to see a nearly 3-hour underwater adventure, and forced James Cameron to cut it down and change the ending. It includes the real ending, along with more than 20 minutes of additional footage. Make sure you get the original director's cut, or Special Edition as they are calling it on the DVD.

Improvements in shipbuilding technology have trimmed production costs below the $1.8 billion projected fiscal year 2009 dollars. To reduce costs, the Virginia-class submarines use many " commercial off-the-shelf" (COTS) components, especially in their computers and data networks. The Virginia class was intended in part as a less expensive alternative to the Seawolf-class submarine ($1.8 billion vs $2.8 billion), whose production run was canceled after just three boats had been completed. Each submarine is projected to make 14–15 deployments during its 33-year service life. The easiest way to create this look is to use a midnight blue shade of plaster. Blue Colored Plaster Image by NPT Poolĭepending on the shade of blue you use, it can look like you have a pool full of sapphire gems. The deeper the pool, the darker the water color will become, and this is especially noticeable with light plasters. This light blue plaster provides a gradient tint as you move from the entry, to the shallow end, and into the deep end. Light Colored Plaster Image by Wet Edge Productsįinishing your pool with a light colored blue or gray plaster gives it a bit more color depth when compared to a white plaster finish. Although, when sun shade is involved, the color will change to a few hues darker. With white plaster, the resulting water color will be the traditional swimming pool look of light turquoise. Today, white plaster is used for those that want to recreate that Hollywood glamour feel, and they’re still widely used (especially in Greek villas). It was popularized in the 1960’s when it was basically the only pool finish that was available. White plaster is a tried and true, classic finish. Here are some real-life examples showing what a pool’s water looks like according to the appropriate plaster color. So you’re going for a certain “look” for your pool, but not sure how to get it? Stains, scaling and shading of the plaster will be especially noticeable on white and similarly light colors, whereas a darker plaster can help mask this issue. Over time, the plaster will begin to show signs of fading and deterioration due to the sun’s UV rays and harsh pool chemicals in the water. Pool plaster color can also play a role in hiding imperfections. The most common plaster colors are: light (blue or gray), blue, green, teal/turquoise, and dark (gray/black). This will make all the difference if you want your pool to have a tropical feel, a lake feel, or a lagoon feel. By adding various dyes/colorants, you can change the plaster to any color you wish.Ĭhanging the plaster’s color changes the tint of the water. In its purest form, pool plaster is basically just white portland cement. The color surface of your pool plaster can dramatically alter the look of your pool.
